چکیده

Molluscs are the second most species-rich phylum in the animal kingdom, yet only 11 genomes of this group have been published so far. Here, we present the draft genome sequence of the pulmonate freshwater snail Radix auricularia. Six whole genome shotgun librarieswithdifferent layoutswere sequenced. The resultingassembly comprises4,823scaffoldswithacumulative lengthof910 Mb and an overall read coverage of 72 . The assembly contains 94.6% of a metazoan core gene collection, indicating an almost complete coverage of the coding fraction. The discrepancy of ~ 690 Mb compared with the estimated genome size of R. auricularia (1.6 Gb) results from a high repeat content of 70% mainly comprising DNA transposons. The annotation of 17,338 protein coding genes was supported by the use of publicly available transcriptome data. This draft will serve as starting point for further genomic and population genetic research in this scientifically important phylum.

Molecular diversity of Trichobilharzia franki in two intermediate hosts (Radix auricularia and Radix peregra): a complex of species.

Recently, the systematic use of the molecular approach as a complement to the other approaches (morphology, biology, life cycle) has brought help for the identification of species considered as different in the past to be regrouped and synonymised, and distinctions to be drawn between species similar at the morphological level. Among these species, we tried to clarify the situation of Trichobil...

Predator cues alter the timing of developmental events in gastropod embryos.

Heterochrony, differences in the timing of developmental events between descendent species and their ancestors, is a pervasive evolutionary pattern. However, the origins of such timing changes are still not resolved. Here we show, using sequence analysis, that exposure to predator cues altered the timing of onset of several developmental events in embryos of two closely related gastropod specie...

Phylogenetic analysis of Lymnaeid snails based on 18S rDNA sequences.

The 18S rDNA sequences of the six most common European Lymnaeidae species (Mollusca:Gastropoda:Basommatophora) have been obtained by direct PCR cycle sequencing and silver staining methods. The sequence alignment and secondary structures of the 18S rRNA gene of Lymnaea stagnalis, L. auricularia, L. peregra, L. palustris, L. glabra, and L. truncatula are analyzed. This gene proves to be a good m...

Preliminary Study on Aquatic Snail Species of Bulinus globosus (Morelet, 1866) (Mollusca: Gastropoda: Planorbidae) from Nankumba Peninsula, Cape Maclear Island, South-East Arm of Lake Malawi

The present investigation of shallow-water gastropod Bulinus globosus is reported on nearshore sites in and around Cape Maclear on the northwestern part of the Nankumba Peninsula, Lake Malawi (part of Lake Malawi National Park) at a depth of 10 M. The present remark focuses on the geographical distribution and habitats of this group and sample have observed in Cape Maclear Island, Republic of M...

Unravelling the riddle of Radix: DNA barcoding for species identification of freshwater snail intermediate hosts of zoonotic digeneans and estimating their inter-population evolutionary relationships.

Radix spp. are intermediate host snails for digenean parasites of medical and veterinary importance. Within this genus, species differentiation using shell and internal organ morphology can result in erroneous species identification, causing problems when trying to understand the population biology of Radix. In the present study, DNA barcoding, using cox1 and ITS2 sequences, identified populati...
